Unit 1: Design Process Students will be introduced to the field of engineering as well as the design process that is used to help engineers develop different solutions to real world problems.
Unit 2: Technical Sketching and Drawing Students will develop and understand the purpose of technical sketches. The students will practice concept drawings and technical sketches in order to further comprehend the importance of visual representation.
Unit 3: Measurement and Statistics Students will become more familiar with applying mathematical practices to their engineering work. They will become comfortable with multiple measuring techniques.
Unit 4: Modeling Skills Students will be introduced to different modeling methods as well as a 3D modeling software. It will also allow students to use their measurement skills and apply them to real-world scenarios.
Unit 5: Geometry of Design Students will learn to see the 3 dimensional figure in a 2 dimensional drawing. They will use those skills to problem solve as well as the design and construction of different tools/items.
Unit 6: Reverse Engineering Students will learn to think about engineering from a "backwards" approach by taking a small object and deconstructing it. It will utilize all of the skills developed thus far. Students will be using extensive critical thinking and analysis skills.
Unit 7: Documentation Students will strengthen their basic knowledge of technical drawing representations to include the creation of alternate views and appropriate dimensions of technical drawings.
Unit 8: Advanced Computer Modeling Students will learn advanced 3D computer modeling.
Unit 9: Design Team Students will work in virtual teams to create a group project. The focus of this unit is the development of effective communication in groups.
Unit 10: Design Challenges Students will work in small teams to solve a culminating design challenge, document processes along the way and communicate their proposed solution.
